Raquel, who is turning into more & more of a beauty every day, has set her sights on Jeremy Norton, a ruggedly handsome football player in their class. So, when she is offered the opportunity to accompany him to a party thrown by one of his teammates, she jumps at the chance, dragging the reluctant Nora with her for moral support. But when Raquel & Jeremy wander off together just minutes after arriving, Nora is left on her own at the party, wondering why she'd agreed to tag along.

Nora's still alone at the end of the night, when the two most popular teens in school are found dead...murdered. And the only one left in the house with her is the murderer!

Dying To Be Cool A Murder In Milburn The Prequel edition by Nancy McGovern Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Dying To Be Cool: A Murder In Milburn: The...Dying To Be Cool is the prequel to the Murder In Milburn series. It takes the reader to the very beginning of when Nora and Raquel became friends. Once Raquel's family moved to Milburn, her and Nora hung out together and were more like sisters than friends. Nora was the bookworm, while Raquel was the popular one who got invited to all the parties etc. Both Nora and Raquel liked two boys at school and the one night that Raquel slept over at Nora's house, they quietly left the house, and went to the house of the boy that Raquel liked. Once there, they saw him climbing down the side of his house, and asked him where he was going. He told them he was going to Duke's house for a party there and they all went together. Once there, Raquel was no where to be seen, so Nora went looking around the house which was like a mansion to her. While looking at all the ornate décor of the house, Nora met Dana a girl she knew from swim class. Dana told her she would introduce her to her brother and his friends (two girls) and to tell her when she was leaving if she needed a ride. Nora did get to meet Dana's brother and friends, who she got along with very well. Shortly after, everyone at the party was informed that the police were on their way. A mad scramble ensued and Nora ended up by herself at Duke's house. Or was she alone? She couldn't find Raquel (which is why she stayed to find her friend so they could go back home) and ended up in a closet. Nora kept the door on a crack and could hear someone close by, she also heard the footsteps leave the closet area and go downstairs whistling a familiar song. The next thing she knew she was coming to in the closet (she had fainted) and Detective Holt was asking her if she was alright. It was then that Nora found out that both Duke and Dana were dead. This was too much and she fainted again. The story then tells of how with what Detective Holt told Nora while questioning her, that Nora was able to put the pieces together as to who killed Duke and Dana. If this story doesn't make you want to read more in the series, nothing will. A great read that fills in the gap as to how Raquel and Nora became not only friends but future business partners.

Dying To Be Cool A Murder In Milburn The Prequel edition by Nancy McGovern Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

If you've read the first two books in this series and are curious about what Nora and Raquel were like in high school, this is definitely the story for you. It's short and easy to read, and will hold your attention from beginning to end. Even at fifteen, Nora was an incredible crime solver. She figured out who the murderer was even before the police were able to do so.

Looking forward to more of these short stories as well as more full-length novels of life in Milburn.!
Being new to this series, I'm glad I started with this one. Nora is 15 and the "good girl" and her best friend Raquel who is the popular girl. They sneak out to a party. The girls are separated when Raquel runs off with her crush leaving Nora to fend for herself. She finds the captain to her swim team, who introduces Nora to her brother Noah and some of his friends. Two of the popular kids are found upstairs murdered and Nora hides in a closet and hears the killer. She is plagued by the murders and starts searching for the killer, who has to be a classmate. A good prequel.
I want to start by saying that I received a copy free for an honest review, but WOW!!!! So, this is supposed to be a novella but it never seemed like it to me while I was reading. It was exciting and I anxiously read the book until I finished it because the suspense was killing me. It was well written, free from mistakes and types. The characters are well developed and the dialog was natural. The story was good and did not seem short, rushed or unfinished. Nora and Raquel are 15 year old best friends and typical high school girls. Nora is know as being a quiet bookworm and Raquel is more outgoing and social. The two girls are having a sleepover at Nora's house when Raquel convinces her to sneak out because it's time to put an end to the predictability and boredom of their lives. Nora is eventually convinced to go and through the events that follow, they end up at a party. Nora is ditched by Raquel once they get there but she bumps into her idol, Dana, who just seems perfect to Nora and everyone else in town. It seems as if the only trouble is going to be the cops are coming and the party breaks up, but that is just the start. Nora can't find her friend and refuses to leave without her. As she hides in a closet, she unknowingly becomes the only witness of the two brutal murders, kind of. Nora doesn't actual see anything but hears the killer cleaning up and whistling a haunting tune. Nora then has to face everyone at school while suspecting kids everywhere she looks. No one can figure out the motive and that makes it harder to even guess who it might be and even more of a surprise as Nora figures out what really happened. This book (novella) is wonderful and full of so many twists and turns, you won't be able to guess who it is. Hopefully there are many more books to come in the series and I can't wait to read the books to follow.
Enjoyed the book can't for the next one.
I have read all of the books that go with this one. This was a short book but enjoyable. I enjoy getting to know the people and follow along with their life throughout the different books.
So i have to say this was one good mystery that kept me guessing till the end, even though it was a prequel i am so looking forward to see what's in stall for Nora and her friends up next... Highly recommend!!!
I wasn't sure how much I'd like a story about a 15-year-old, but it turned out to be really good. She really captured the way teenagers interact with each other and the world. I'm looking forward to reading the further adventures of Nora as an adult.
